Wouldn’t it be nice if this year you could forget about ties and bottles of wine and give Dad a truly unforgettable gift? Paris Worldwide has scoured the French capital to bring you three original gift ideas Dad will love.
Offer him services from a mobile shoe-shiner
Our first gift idea will restore the lustre in your father’s most beloved shoes. Their saviour is none other than David El Hayani, the creator behind Reflets de cuir. On the heels of a long career in ready-to-wear, leatherwork and luxury watchmaking, David decided to bring his meticulousness and his golden hands to customers’ homes, arriving in his vintage car to rescue their footwear. Shoe repair, staining, patina or polishing... Absolutely nothing escapes the eye of this fine craftsman. Expect to pay €25 for a polish or €110 for a total overhaul (+33 (0)6 82 89 81 00). Help your dad put his best foot forward!

An underground cocktail at La Mina
AOur second suggestion will immerse your dad into the deep underworld of Carbon, an Argentinean grill in Marais, beneath which hides an underground bar, La Mina (Spanish for “the mine”). Adorned with miners’ helmets, this hidden gem features two experienced mixologists, Candelaria native, Sébastien Gans, and Thomas Girard, formerly at Gravity Bar. The duo serves up carefully crafted cocktails, including their signature Hokusai, a slightly iodine beverage which delicately blends saké, tea, gin and vermouth, or their incredible House daiquiri made with grilled pineapple skins and black molasses (cocktails: €12 - €14).

A slice of perfection from Grill Astier
Our third gift idea is perfect for all those meat-lover dads out there: Grill Astier is an edgy subsidiary of the Astier bistro institution, tucked away in the 11th arrondissement on rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud. The entrance greets you with a vintage glass cabinet showcasing a mouth-watering array of exceptional meats just waiting to be prepared to perfection over a charcoal grill. Seated along the cowhide-lined benches, patrons devour the Simmental de Bavière beef fillet (€37), Salers picanha (€23) or Espelette pepper pork ribs (€20). Much more delectable than a tie, wouldn’t you agree?
